Attendance and Punctuality

At Brookmead School, we believe that good attendance and punctuality are essential to every child’s learning, progress, and wellbeing. Children who attend school regularly and arrive on time make the most of all learning opportunities, build strong friendships, and develop positive habits for life.

Attendance Matters

Every day in school counts. Even a few days’ absence can disrupt learning and make it harder for children to stay on track. Our school attendance target is 96% or above, and we work closely with families to achieve this together.
If your child is unwell or unable to attend school, please contact us by 9am on the first day of absence by emailing pupilabsence@brookmead.net. Please include your child’s name, class, and the specific reason for the absence.
If your child has a medical appointment, we ask that you try to arrange it outside of school hours where possible. When this isn’t possible, please email us with evidence of the appointment (such as a letter, text, or screenshot).
For any planned absences, such as family events or exceptional circumstances, please complete the Pupil Absence Request Form, which can be downloaded here:

Pupil Leave of Absence Request Form

Requests for term-time leave can only be authorised in exceptional circumstances and will be considered in line with our Attendance Policy.

Punctuality

The school day begins at 8:50am, and gates open from 8:40am to help children settle in calmly and prepare for the day.
Arriving on time ensures your child is ready to learn from the very start and does not miss key information shared during registration. Children who arrive after the gate closes must be signed in at the school office.
Persistent lateness can affect your child's learning and wellbeing, so we will contact parents if lateness becomes a concern. Our aim is always to work with families to overcome any barriers and to support good routines at home.

Working Together

We understand that occasional absences are sometimes unavoidable, and we’re here to support you. Please talk to us if you are finding attendance or punctuality challenging — together, we can help every child arrive at school on time, every day, ready to learn and thrive.
Every day counts at Brookmead — together, we can make every moment of learning matter.
